Russian Food for Kiwis - Acknowledgements

This site wouldn’t have happened if it were not for the support and encouragement from five very special women who all share a common thread; all five came to New Zealand from Russian speaking countries - Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine.

They are five of the most striking women I’ve ever had the pleasure to know, and have been generous in sharing their friendship, language, culture and food.

They have also been my taste testers when I have tried new Russian dishes. Although my experiments have not always been successful, these ladies have always been encouraging and supportive. Thank you to Natalya, Enna, Vika, Olga and Safira.

Then there is the constant support of my family and close friend, Kathleen, who also are my taste testers, assistant cooks as well as helping to build and maintain this site.

In addition, thanks must also go to Russian language and cooking tutor, Evgenia Dovbysh, who for many years now has put up with questions, fumblings and complaints about how difficult the Russian language is - all with patience and good humour.

This site is dedicated to you all, and all Kiwis with an adventurous appetite.

Matrioshka, or Nesting Dolls are synonymous with Russian Folk art, the first dating back to the late 1890s.
